Why we use Beeswax

Why we use beeswax.

Beeswax is the only non-vegan ingredient we use. Why?
We use certified organic beeswax which means Certified organic beeswax goes one step further.
it is free of synthetic agricultural chemicals including pesticides, fungicides and herbicides.
So the bees have not been exposed to flowers that have been sprayed with chemicals, their hives are chemical free and pests that effect the bees are treated naturally. they also prohibit wing clipping.
Beeswax is rich in Vitamin A which promotes cell regeneration.
Beeswax acts as a fantastic humectant, meaning it attracts moisture to your skin.
It also creates a barrier on the skin, sealing moisture in (making it particularly beneficial in lip balms).
Unlike petroleum jelly though, it does not suffocate the skin, but rather allows it to breath. This barrier also helps to protect the skin from environmental toxins and irritants.
Beeswax is more ethically sourced than candelilla wax and its production process is much more eco-friendly.
The alternative is a vegan source called Candilla Wax.
The issue is that the plant is comes from is endangered. Candelilla wax is derived from the leaves of the small Candelilla shrub (Euphorbia Cerifera) of northern Mexico, which has been designated as an endangered species under CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Flora and Fauna.
Beeswax is softer than candilla wax and is used to reduce white rub in time. you know when you rub a cream forever and it doesn't rub it.
We may consider switching to a vegan alternative if we can find a suitable one.
